Baby’s remains found buried near Riverside airport
Following the discovery of human remains buried near the Riverside Municipal Airport, believed to be that of a baby born to a transient woman about a year ago, police on Friday were uncertain whether criminal
charges would be filed against the woman.
The remains were found Thursday near the intersection of Central and Hillside avenues, just north of the airport.
According to Riverside Officer Ryan Railsback, the woman gave birth to a baby at a hospital Wednesday, during which she disclosed the incident to a social worker.
At this time, police say they don’t believe the baby was intentionally killed by the woman, but rather was either born prematurely, stillborn or died shortly after birth.
Railsback said “We don’t necessarily believe there was necessarily any malice involved in what happened.”
He said that though the woman may perhaps face charges for unlawful disposal of human remains, an autopsy will be needed to determine whether any other charges were expected.
Railsback said that the child born Wednesday was likely in the custody of Child Protective Services.
