Assemblymember Garcia writes letter of support of Manuel Perez
Assemblymember Garcia submitted a letter of support in favor of V. Manuel Perez to fill John Benoit’s empty seat.
Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) joined Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) and Senate President pro Tempore, Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) in submitting a letter of support urging V. Manuel Perez’s appointment to District 4, Riverside County supervisorial seat left vacant after John Benoit’s death.
V. Manuel Perez has a longstanding history of public service within the area. He is a retired State Assemblymember born and raised in the agricultural community of Coachella where he currently serves as the Councilmember. In addition to his position in local government, Perez is the Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer for Borrego Health.
“I strongly encourage Governor Brown to appoint my predecessor, V. Manuel Perez to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. He is by far the most qualified and fit to fill this position,” said Assemblymember Garcia, who expresses the imperative need for a prompt appointment process, due to pivotal regional issues and projects left pending. “We need a leader who can hit the ground running; he has proven his ability to boost job creation, enhance relationships with contract cites, and increase access to healthcare, especially mental health services. His strong ties with state leadership will help him to achieve real solutions for county issues such as the Salton Sea. Perez is exactly the voice we need to ensure all residents have an equal opportunity to prosper.”
The letter submitted to Governor Brown also includes signatures from a coalition of Inland Empire legislators; Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona,) Eloise Reyes (D-San Bernardino) and Jose Medina (D-Riverside.)
