Deployed soldier surprises wife in Palm Springs

It was a special surprise at the Palm Springs Marathon Runners’ annual Red Carpet Run Saturday morning, where hundreds of people showed up dressed in their finest red carpet attire.

Minutes before the race got underway, organizers introduced a very special guest, Sgt. Major James Shepard who was disguised as Elvis Presely.

Army Sgt. Major Shepard had been over seas for nearly a year and wanted to surprise his wife Kim, who was in town for the event.

A well-planned drawing lured Kim to the front of the crowd and that is when her very own hometown hero revealed himself.

“You know, it’s so funny. I used to watch these videos of homecomings with military and they all start weeping and I used to think, ‘well….OK'”, she said. “I’m not really an emotional person, but it was really overwhelming to see him.”
