Veterans honored at Careerbuilder Challenge
This week’s CareerBuilder challenge will salute veterans, and it’s already underway. Callaway golf honored a couple of deserving American heroes Tuesday.
Purple Heart recipient, Sergeant First Class Joe Masseur lost his foot after his vehicle was hit by an i.e.d in Afghanistan in 2009 Tuesday, he received the Phil Mickelson treatment.
“It’s a lot of fun, I’m glad I’m on this side of the range so not everyone can see these duff’s,” said Masseur.
A full set of custom clubs made specifically for masseur from Callaway golf, and tips from pros like tour player Jerry Kelly.
“To watch him on the range, putting in the time with one leg and really swinging the club very well,” said Jerry Kelly PGA Tour player. “It’s inspiring to watch. It’s inspiring for me for me; that I better go out there and do my job and be happy with what I’m doing for what he’s done for us.”
In on the fun was U.S. Navy Petty Officer Lisa Kukula originally from Vietnam, she enlisted after 9-11. Kukula was injured in Afghanistan several times, her scars not visible to the eye.
“Golf is the only thing I can do without aggravating my injuries. I’m still terrible at it but it take my mind off my pain and my stress. It is therapeutic,” said Kukula.
Birdies for the Brave was created by Phil Mickelson back in 2006. Mickelson, one of golf superstars, is the ambassador to the CareerBuilder Challenge. Mickelson’s father was a fighter pilot. The program has raised more than $17-million dollars for non-profit military groups.
