“Swinging that club countless times a day it’s just really tough somewhat…really tiring,” said Adam Co, Palm Desert High School student.
It’s fatigue according to one study that’s good for your health. According to researchers at the University of Edinburghm, golfing can help a person live longer by an average of five years. Researchers credit the moderate physical activity and exposure to fresh air.
“It would make a lot of sense because basically were at out in the sunshine and we’re out walking getting a lot of exercise so I would say that’s 100% true. I can get 3 miles of walking in, just when I play golf and that’s using a cart.,” said Indio resident Debbie Althouse.
For Debbie it’s exercise she has been doing for the last 15 years. As someone who is among the older population in the valley, she feels she’s certainly reaping the benefits.
Now the benefits of golf are just physical according to the study I can also help with your mental health ensuring that your hacks on the course will drive a wedge between you and your health.
“Well again if you have to take it out on something out on somebody because you’re upset the golf club and the golf ball are great so I guess all that anxiety out of you,” said Debbie.
For those who are on the younger side, such as these members of the palm desert golf team, it’s a major stress reliever.
“It gives you time to think about your day. You think about things to improve about your day and I think that’s just kind of… To me it’s just kind of important about it,” said Ethan Waters, student at Palm Desert High School.
“I mean it’s just a relaxing game and you do work out,” said Adam Co.
The study also found that golf can help reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Researchers say they hope the study will encourage more people to golf.
A workout that can fuel a driving ambition for better health.
