Motorists were being detoured onto Varner road then back onto the freeway at Monroe Street as crews worked on a concrete pour at the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Westbound I-10 freeway lanes were open and westbound traffic was not impacted by the closure.
Motorists entering the freeway from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street were not impacted by the closure.
Eastbound traffic was expected to be detoured until the project wrapped up for the day by 6:00 a.m.
Eastbound traffic was backed up nearly to Washington Street as of 5:15 a.m. Motorists were urged to use caution travelling through the area.
