San Bernardino School District is honoring an 8-year-old boy

The San Bernardino School district is honoring an eight-year-old boy who was killed during a murder-suicide at North Park Elementary School last month.

Jonathan Martinez, a special needs student was killed along with his teacher Karen Smith, when they were shot by Smith’s estranged husband, Cedric Anderson. Martinez was said to be standing behind his teacher in his classrom when they were hit.

Friday, the San Bernardino School District tweeted that in honor of Jonthan Martinez, they are declaring May as Williams Syndrome awareness month. The genetic disease is characterized by cardiovascular disease, developmental delays and learning disabilities.

A nine-year-old boy was also shot, but is recovering.
