Activists host Day of Resistance conference

Local activists are joining forces today for a Day of Resistance against the Trump administration. It was hosted at the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs and dozens of supporters were in attendance.

The agenda was split into different categories. The first part of the day was aimed toward activists, encouraging people to raise their voices, starting at the local level.

After, people gathered to discuss legal rights. From LGBT issues to attacks on immigrant communities.

Organizers say they coordinated the event to educate people about changes in policy, while providing tools to support minority activists in their resistance.

“We need to have an opportunity to come together to learn about communities that are being attacked by this administration and what we can do about it. What can local folks do to protect their neighbors? How can they respond to what they see happening from this administration that they don’t agree with?” said Kate Kendell, the Executive Director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

Some people in attendance say they feel like they have a better understanding of policy issues and feel they’ve reached clarity on ways they can engage, resist, and assist with other supporters.
