Sentencing for La Quinta stepmom delayed as attorneys push for new trial
A La Quinta stepmom convicted of second degree murder had her sentencing pushed back Friday until August as her attorneys prepare to file a motion for a new trial.
52 year old Patricia Brown was originally scheduled to be sentenced in late January 2017 but that was halted after an appellate court ordered a stay in the proceedings. Brown’s family is asking for her case to be reheard.
Brown was found guilty in January of 2016 of second-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old stepson, Deetrick. Her husband was acquitted, while testimony continued for Patricia.
We spoke to Patricia’s husband last year after she was found guilty. He called the guilty verdict a ‘terrible injustice’. Dozens of people gathered to protest the conviction as well. Brown collapsed after hearing the guilty verdict was read to her in court.
