Local kids on what freedom means to them
As people across the country gather to celebrate our country’s independence — wanted to find out what that means for kids, here in the Desert.
A long line at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center this Fourth of July, as parents and their kids, spend the day off splashing around and keeping cool.
While many people spend the day barbecuing and relaxing it’s a day to remember all of the freedoms we have as Americans.
So we wanted to know what freedom meant to kids young and old.
“There are people in the world that don’t have what we have stuff like this or basically anything we have in America, Independence and the right to vote stuff like that,” said Jessica Silva from Indio.
“Freedom to me means being able to express yourself without worrying about anyone judging you and just being yourself,” said Alondra Ortiz from Indio.
“To me, freedom means that you can do anything you want in the world you can travel and you can just explore the world, you have a right to an education and right to speak your mind without anyone telling you what to do,” said
When we asked kids what they like best about America…
“They let us use fireworks,” said the kids.
The Palm Desert Aquatic Center will be open through tonight’s fireworks show at Civic Center Park. you can beat the crowds and keep cool while celebrating Independence Day.
Parking will be allowed at the park until 6 pm and you can get to that lot via Fred Waring Drive as Magnesia Falls is closed.
There will be a free air conditioned shuttle service between the Gardens on El Paseo and the park, that will run from until 10 pm.
