UPDATE: Full freeway closure in Indio
An overnight full freeway closure has ended in Indio at the Jefferson Interchange project.
Crews completed their work reopening eastbound lanes by 5:00 a.m. and westbound lanes by 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning along Interstate 10.
Watch live as Jeremy Chen is live from the freeway this morning.
But more closures are planned all this week as crews demolish the last remaining original freeway overpass to make way for new freeway on and off ramps.
The $71 million Jefferson Street Interchange Project got underway in the spring of 2015.
It has entailed expanding the current two-lane overpass connecting Varner Road and Indio Boulevard to eight lanes, erecting loop ramps for easy east-west access to I-10 and adding bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
