Several organizations pushing Coachella’s sanctuary city process

Several organizations attended Wednesday’s Coachella City Council meeting to ask for the council’s approval to accelerate the process to become a sanctuary city.

97% of the Coachella’s population are Latinos, so some organizations expect the city to listen to why they believe the city should become a sanctuary city as soon as possible.

One woman told KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 that her organization hopes for the beginning of a discussion.

“We are here tonight with other organizations to ask this city to start a study session on the issue of sanctuary cities,” said Lynee O’Neill of the Courageous Resistance Group. “Not that they pass an ordinance, but have a study session so that the council and the public can understand this issue.”

The council said they would put the request in their agenda for the next meeting.
