Boil water advisory remains for some near Indio, 2nd phase of water testing finds no E. Coli

There was a boil watch for dozens of residents in an unincorporated area of Riverside County near the City of Indio after a private water agency detected E-coli in the water. The area in question is near Van Buren and is located close to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.

Sally Salinas is just one, of a few dozen, Carver Tract Mutual Water customers who received a water boiling notice in the mail.

“The doctor at the hospital says, ‘make sure to boil your water, and let it set and then refrigerate it. Then you can drink it’,” Salinas said.

The notice says E. coli was detected Tuesday, and for the time being, Indio Water Authority is supplying those impacted with clean water.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly should be especially careful to disinfect the water before use.

Salinas believes her shower water is harming her.

“I want to throw up. I don’t have the appetite i used to. I’m getting sores on my body and at first I didn’t know why, but now I know why,” Salinas said.

Those who received the notice should continue to use boiled water or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, food preparation and washing dishes too.

Water agencies are required to test water supply monthly and while we haven’t been able to get a hold of Carver Tract Mutual, the notice explains the water may have been contaminated by increased run-offs getting into the water supply, a break in water pipes, or a failure in the water treatment process.

The supplier is disinfecting the entire water system over the next few days.

KESQ News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2 confirmed that the second cycle of water testing returned no results of E-coli in the drinking water.

Carver Tract Mutual Water, a private water agency, detected E-coli in the water supply that serves that area on Tuesday A notice went out for residents in the area to boil their water until further notice. This included the water system and wells.

But now officials are saying that no E-coli was detected during the second phase of testing.

In the event of E-coli being present in drinking water, people with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly people should take extra precautions.

The water district said it takes about two weeks before the water is disinfected and cleaned in the event of E-coli being detected.
