Residents at country club preparing for upcoming power outage
People living at the Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City are facing their 5th planned outage since June.
Residents at the country club near Landau Boulevard and Ramon Road said the last two outages scheduled by Southern California Edison (SCE) lasted more than 10 hours each in severe heat.
Some said food inside their refrigerators and freezers went bad, costing some up to $500 in groceries.
“Of course they couldn’t do this in January,” resident Joyce Dixon said. “We can’t figure that out. It’s just very miserable, and we had two a couple weeks ago. And now, we’re scheduled to have a couple more in the next week or so.”
Other residents said they’ve had to stay in hotels during the duration of the outage.
“Not knowing whether my food is any good at night, it’s too hot to stay there,” resident Linda Haas said. “At night, people have gotten a hotel to stay at. Luckily, I have another house to go to. It’s just too many outages, [and] too long.”
KESQ and CBS Local 2 reached out to management at Desert Princess Country Club, but they’re closed for the weekend.
