Community raising concerns over coyote
Residents in one Valley neighborhood are concerned about a sick coyote roaming the community.
As the cicadas buzz on a summer day at the Rancho Mirage Mobile Home Community a coyote lurks
“It’s 6 months later the coyote is still around,” said Ondrea Husbands, “he’s gotten my aunt’s cat, poor thing.”
Husbands said on January 19, a coyote killed her family member’s cat and now months later, that same coyote is still roaming the area.
“One of the other neighbors contacted the park manager yesterday morning, they didn’t do much, they just gave us the number for animal control, and I feel it’s part of the park’s responsibility to stay on top of it,” Husbands said.
However, a park manager had a different story.
“We have no knowledge of any problem with coyotes, there was that one off and that was on Wednesday and that coyote has left the park. said Donna, Director of the Rancho Mirage Mobile Home Community. “If they were contacted and they did nothing, well, that’s their job.”
“We called animal control, animal control came out, they physically saw the coyote and didn’t do anything, didn’t even try to catch it or anything,” Husbands said.
in response to the claims, Rancho Mirage Animal Control released a statement:
The city is aware of the coyote and we have attempted to capture the coyote on numerous separate occasions either through pursuit or through the deployment of humane traps. Unfortunately, all of our attempts so far have been unsuccessful. It’s important to note that while we may eventually capture this specific coyote, it will not preclude other coyotes from entering the community from the surrounding mountains in search of available food.
The coyote is loose in the mobile home park and with no way to catch it Husbands remains concerned for all the residents in the area
“It’d be nothing for him to take or hurt, seriously hurt a child.”
