Vandals Break Into Cabazon School
CABAZON — Gang-type graffiti was found at an elementary school in Cabazon that was vandalized today, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
An alarm went off at 2:40 a.m. at Cabazon Elementary School at 50575 Carmen Ave., and responding deputies found the graffiti, said Sgt. Steve Fredericks of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Principal John Curtis said the graffiti was cleaned up before students arrived for classes.
“The students are all safe in the classrooms. For us, it’s business as usual. A lot of the kids don’t know what is going on,” Curtis said.
The principal said most of the damage was outside, where lunch tables, statues, potted plants and concrete trash cans were destroyed and strewn across the school yard.
“It’s just a shame that people came to do that when this is a place for kids,” Curtis said.
A damage estimate was unavailable.
Anyone with information about the vandalism was asked to call the sheriff’s Cabazon station at (951) 922-7100.
