Desert Hot Springs Fire Leaves Residents Homeless

A fire damaged a home today in Desert Hot Springs, but no one was hurt, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze at 66290 Cahuilla Ave., near Cactus Drive, was reported at 7:30 a.m., said Capt. Fernando Herrera of the fire department.

More than a dozen firefighters contained the flames to the living room, Herrera said, but the residence sustained smoke- and heat-related damage. Crews needed about 20 minutes to knock down the blaze.

The American Red Cross responded to the home to help two people displaced by the fire, said Herrera.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
