Gang Members Face Sentencing In CHP Shootout

A sentencing hearing has been reset to this afternoon– for two desert hot springs gang members who could face life in prison.

A jury found 20-year-old anthony paez guilty of first-degree murder– in january.

Paez and a fellow gang member Edgar Flores got into a shoot-out with CHP officers during a chase in 2008.

Under the law, jurors found them liable for the death of a third friend in the car, Alexis Melendrez-Acosta, who officers shot and killed during the chase.

Sentencing is now set for 1:30 this afternoon.
