Two Injured in Car Crash

Two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition after a three-car crash in a Cathedral City neighborhood.

The collision happened around 7:00 p.m. near the corner of El Canto and Santoro.

According to the Cathedral City Police Dept., it appears a man was driving in reverse at the time of the crash. The man backed into a 17 year-old girl, who was holding a two year-old child. The girl suffered a partial amputation of the leg, while the toddler was thrown from her arms and suffered severe head injuries.

The man then crashed into two other vehicles before coming to rest against a house.

Witnesses were able to detain the man until police officers arrived at the scene.

He was arrested for driving under the influence, but could face additional charges after detectives finish their investigation. His name has not yet been released.

One of the vehicles that was hit was parked, but the other was being driven by a driver who left the scene. Police are hoping to track down that driver to get additional information about the crash.

Officers will stay at the scene until they are able to recreate the collision.
