Driver Surrenders To Police After Hit-And-Run

A Cathedral City man suspected in a hit-and-run crash in Palm Springs surrendered to the city’s police department, police said today.

Alejandrino Mendez, 37, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving without a valid license at the department around 10 a.m. Sunday, said police Officer Melissa Desmarais.

Mendez is accused of driving a white pickup truck that struck 85-year- old Michael Zampino on Ramon Road near Desert View Drive around 8:55 p.m. Saturday, Desmarais said.

Witnesses said the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene.

Following his arrest, the white Ford F-150 truck believed to be involved in the crash was found at Mendez’s home, Desmarais said.
