Would-Be Bank Robber Arrested In Indio

A man attempted to rob a bank in Indio Saturday morning, but was arrested almost immediately.

According to Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department, the man walked into the Bank of America branch at 81800 Highway 111 at 10:20 a.m. He walked up to the teller and handed a note demanding cash. The teller pressed an alarm, causing police officers to respond. The suspect jumped the counter, but employees stalled him until officers arrived.

Officers arrived at the scene and took 21 year-old Travis Medina of Indio into custody without incident, Guitron said.

Guitron says Medina was not armed.

No one was injured during the robbery attempt.

According to the officers who responded to the bank, everyone inside remained calm, and several of the people inside did not know a robbery attempt was underway.
