Firefighters Contain Wildfire In Wildomar

A fire that blackened 25 acres of chaparral-carpeted slopes near the Cleveland National Forest above Wildomar was fully contained today.

The blaze was reported just before 8 p.m. Thursday near 21384 Coral Rock Lane, said Cheri Patterson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Four structures near Wildomar were threatened Thursday night, but firefighters were able to keep the flames at bay, said Capt. Jim Brown.

About 200 firefighters worked the fire lines overnight. Less than 100 remained as of 11:30 a.m., when the blaze was declared fully contained, according to Patterson.

The blaze was expected to be completely extinguished by Saturday morning.

Fire investigators revealed late Friday a 12 and 13-year-old were responsible for starting the fire. They admitted playing with matches.

They will not be charged with arson because there was no criminal intent, but their parents will be responsible for the cost to put the fire out.
