NTSB Releases Preliminary Findings In Mecca Helicopter Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board released the first round of results as part of its investigation into a helicopter crash in Mecca last month.

The crop dusting helicopter crashed in a field on Sept. 21 near Lincoln Street and 70th Avenue, leaving the pilot with minor injuries.

The NTSB’s report indicates the helicopter flew too close to a telephone pole just before it crashed. The main rotor blades hit the pole only 10 feet above the ground, which the NTSB estimates caused the pilot to lose control and crash.

The report stops short of identifying a probable cause of the wreck. A final report is expected to be issued within the next several months.
