Medicinal Marijuana Collectives Still Outlawed In Rancho Mirage

Any plans for a medical marijuana dispensary in Rancho Mirage have been put on hold.

The city council voted unanimously Thursday to extend a moratorium it passed last month against the sale and distribution of medical marijuana within city limits.

The city extended the moratorium for an additional 45 days as of October 31.

The council took up the issue when three medicinal marijuana collectives opened in Rancho Mirage.

Still, patients were optimistic that an ordinance will eventually pass.

“I just believe they need more time to do it,” said Sam Anderson, who sells marijuana ice cream. “I think they’re going to allow a certain number of facilities to open up.”

The council also voted unanimously to postpone discussing zoning permits for dispensaries until it’s next meeting on November 4.
