High Winds Create Dangerous Conditions In Southern California

The National Weather Service has issued high wind warnings as gusts of 30 to 60 mph sweep through Southern and Central California.

Forecasters say northwest winds will scour the mountains and valleys of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties through Tuesday.

The warnings include the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains as well as the Yucca Valley region.

Drivers heading through the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles are urged to be careful. Gale warnings are up for boaters in San Luis Obispo County, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Meanwhile, authorities aren’t sure if wind toppled a 70-foot eucalyptus tree that smashed into a Granada Hills home Monday morning. Los Angeles fire spokesman Brian Humphrey says a 56-year-old woman sitting on her sofa missed being crushed by inches. She’s hospitalized in fair condition.
