Grocery Shoppers Seek Bargains Amidst Rising Prices
Going to the grocery store costs more nowadays. So, more shoppers are hunting for bargains these days.
“I’m watching everything I buy and see if I can get the most for whatever I buy,” said Jan Ransom, of Palm Desert.
Grocery store chain Fresh & Easy want to help customers save money. That’s the idea behind its “98 cent produce packs.”
One way to keep track of produce prices is to do it yourself, especially if you have a smart phone. For example, iPhone launched an application appropriately called Produce Tracker. It allows you to keep track of which of your favorite stores has the cheaper price for an item. Simply type in the PLU codes.
But, smart shoppers like Ann Rosenblatt don’t need a smart phone to help them. They know the prices from experience.
“Everywhere you go, there are certain things you can get at certain stores,” she said. “So, I make my rounds. After here, I’m off to Costco!”
Another way to save: Buy generic instead of brand names. They almost always costs less and usually taste the same.
