Suspect Arrested In 4-Year-Old’s Shooting

Indio police announced they’ve made an arrest in the shooting of a 4-year-old boy.

Javontae Garcia, 25, of La Quinta, was arrested Saturday morning on the 47-700 block of Dunes Palms Road in the City of La Quinta after admitting to detectives he was responsible for shooting 4-year-old Adam Noah DeLeon.

DeLeon was shot while playing in his front yard on Monte Verde Street in Indio on Feb. 21. Witnesses said two cars passed by the car firing shots at each other, and the boy was shot in the crossfire.

Garcia’s arrest comes one day after Indio police conducted a series of warrant searches in Indio, Coachella and La Quinta, which resulted in 6 people being detained, but no arrests.

Investigators said the sweep led the more information which they followed throughout Friday night, ending with Garcia’s arrest on Saturday morning.

?In these eleven days since Adam was injured due to the shooting, we have an arrest that holds this person responsible for their actions and will be held fully accountable for what occurre,? said Indio Police Chief Bradley Ramos.

Two investigators, Alfredo Chaparro and Kelly Hawkins, are credited for their dedication in this shooting investigation.

Garcia was booked into the Indio jail on charges of assault with a firearm and bodily harm.
