Vista Chino, Gene Autry Reopen After Windstorm

Palm Springs police re-opened Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail at the wash on Tuesday morning, but Indian Canyon was still closed, and may be for the rest of the day.

High winds on Sunday night and Monday blew sand and dust over the roadway, making driving nearly impossible, according to police. Zero-visibility was reported at one point on Gene Autry Trail.

On Tuesday morning, a thick layer of sand still littered Indian Canyon, and crews were working to remove it, so traffic could once again travel south to the downtown area of Palm Springs.

Police say that stretch of roadway will remain closed until March 9.
