Five Killed In Plane Crash At Long Beach Airport

A twin-engine plane crashed on takeoff today from Long Beach Municipal Airport, killing five of the six people aboard.

The plane crashed and erupted in flames in the northwest portion of the airport at 10:37 a.m., according to Steve Yamamoto of the Long Beach Fire Department.

Yamamoto said the plane was carrying six people, five of whom died. Paramedics took the lone survivor to a hospital in unknown condition, he said.

Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said the twin-engine Beechcraft King Air aircraft crashed on departure, and it was headed to Salt Lake City. Gregor said the plane was engulfed in flames.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
