La Quinta Home Damaged In Fire

A La Quinta family is temporarily without a home as a fire engulfed their garage Friday and gutted a travel trailer parked in the driveway.

Firefighters were called to the area of Avenida Velasco and Calle Montezuma for reports of a large fire.

Cal Fire responded with 20 firefighters, 5 engines, 1 truck and breathing support at around 8:09 p.m.

The fire was contained in just under a half of an hour, damaging a garage and a travel trailer.

The house sustained $50,000 of damage.

Four people were displaced: two parents, and their kids.

The family has been temporarily displaced, but will eventually be able to return.

In the meantime, they will stay with other family and friends — the American Red Cross was not called to the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
