Fire Controlled Off Highway 111 In Palm Springs

Palm Springs and Cal Fire crews managed to quickly gain control of a brush fire that erupted south of Interstate 10 on Highway 111 Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. when crews warned the California Highway Patrol the fire was approaching the freeway. CHP officers reported flames shooting into their air on their website.

Cal Fire estimated the blaze could have spread to 100 acres, but firefighters controlled the fire after it consumed only a quarter-acre.

No structures were damaged, and no one was injured.
