Plane Crashes In Joshua Tree National Park
Jeff Thornton, 28, was the pilot of a small plane flying from Lake Havasu, Arizona, to Compton, California, and survived a crash in Joshua Tree National Park on Monday.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported the single engine Piper Super Cub plane crashed shortly before 9 a.m. near Sunset Road and Joshua Trail.
People who watched the plane crash told the FAA it caught fire when it hit the ground.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told News Channel 3 the pilot, who was the only person on board, managed to get out of the plane after the crash and was badly burned.
He was transported to a local hospital, where his condition was not known.
The single engine Piper Super Cub was licensed to Van Wagner Aerial Media Company, which is based in Hollywood, Fla. It can only reach speeds of 82 mph.
