Pougnet To Run For Re-Election In Palm Springs

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet announced today he will run for re-election in November 2012.

Pougnet, who has been the city’s mayor since 2007, told friends and supporters at a Palm Springs hotel that he will seek another term, and unveiled a campaign website. He will not make another run at Congress, spokeswoman Shelly Saunders said.

Pougnet failed last November to unseat Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, in the 45th Congressional District.

Pougnet, who is holding a campaign kickoff event tonight at Spencer’s Restaurant, said he wanted to focus on issues in the city.

“Thanks to your passion, hard work and tenacity, Palm Springs has continued to survive and even thrive in spite of a tough national economy, but we have much work to do,” he said, adding that he was “ready to build on the successes of my first term” as mayor.
