Valley Shooting Shocks Neighbors, But Doesn’t Scare Them
Neighbors wonder what happened to their peaceful Arroyo De Paz apartment complex after a shooting.
It happened right in front of Andre Denmon’s apartment.
“I was playing Modern Warfare and I heard some gunshots and I knew it wasn’t on my video game. Then I ducked down and prepared for cover,” resident Andre Denmon said.
Paramedics took the victim to Desert Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The commander on scene said he suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
“We have more than one suspect, probably two, who were seen running away from the scene. Right now, we’re just trying to put all those pieces together,” Commander Dan Bressler of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department said.
“Since the call came out, there’s been a couple of us just driving around the area looking for anyone suspicious, or anyone that runs from us when they see us,” Commander Bressler said.
Neighbors and even the detective say the Arroyo De Paz apartment complex is one where crime usually doesn’t happen.
“This don’t ever go on in these apartments. No gunshots or anything like that,” Denmon said.
“It’s pretty quiet in here during the day. It’s pretty quiet in here during the night,” Commander Bressler said.
“It’s very unlikely and uncommon for it to happen, so it surprised me. I’m hoping it has something to do with somewhere else and was carried on into here and has nothing to do with my residence.”
The suspects may be on the run, but neighbors say they don’t feel unsafe.
“It’s scary, but it usually doesn’t happen and I know there’s more to the story and it doesn’t pertain to our community,” Arroyo de Paz manager Sonia Espericueta said.
As police search for the gunmen, they’re also searching for a motive.
