Snow day near the Coachella Valley
Rooftops and lawns were covered with snow in Banning Tuesday. Some locals there didn’t mind bundling up to go outside to play.
“We all went outside and were throwing snow…it was fun!” said Max Loya, of Banning.
The snow was melting quickly in Banning, but at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, there was plenty of snow to play with. In fact, there was about six to twelve inches at the top of the mountain, according to Lena Zimmerschied, a spokesperson for the tram.
Valley locals and visitors took advantage of the powdered covered mountains — looking to get their hands on some snow.
“This is really nice, pristine, and white. I can’t believe how soft it is,” said Tandis Arjmand, visiting from San Diego.
Some even dove right in to make snow angels.
“Snow angels and throwing snowballs and having a good time with the girls,” said Denise Nargang, visiting the tram from Canada.
Throwing snowballs was definitely the crowd favorite, especially for Cary Mclean, of Chicago. Mclean’s grandson, William, thought a snow fight with grandma was “awesome!”
Others enjoyed a picnic lunch and their first trip up to beautiful San Jacinto mountains.
“We made a snowman and it’s the first time my daughter Kruz got to play in the snow,” said Amy Kudlac, of Palm Springs.
It might not stick around for long, but for now, snow is just a tram ride away. Tramway employees say they’re expecting a busy weekend ahead.
