Crash shuts down one lane of SR-60
If you’re heading west Friday morning, California Highway Patrol officers want you to use Interstate 10 instead of SR-60 to avoid a traffic headache.
A crash closed one of two lanes on westbound SR-60 one mile east of Gilman Springs Friday. The accident happened just around 1 a.m. when a semi-truck loaded with hot dogs caught on fire. The driver pulled over on the shoulder, and got out without getting hurt.
The fire quickly spread through the truck and trailer, rupturing the diesel fuel tanks. While CAL Fire quickly put out the fire, the No. 2 lane of the SR-60 remained closed as a hazardous materials clean-up crew took care of the spilled fuel and contaminated soil.
Those driving through the badlands should expect significant delays. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
