Palm Springs man arrested in two-car crash
A crash involving two drivers left one vehicle teetering on a wall in Palm Springs.
It happened at 6:07 p.m. on Monday. The Palm Springs Police Department says the two cars were driving eastbound on East Palm Canyon Drive toward Sunrise, when the driver of a Mercedes violated the other driver’s right-of-way — causing the driver to crash into the wall and exit gate of the Rancho La Paz condos.
Firefighters had to stabilize the vehicle before they could get the driver out who was trapped inside. That driver was not injured.
“I just wondered what was happening and we saw the JawsofLife but apparently the man was OK. That’s the most important thing. The rest we can just get fixed,” said Glenn Samuels, a resident of the Rancho La Paz condos.
Witnesses told police the driver suspected of causing the crash pulled over near the Saguaro hotel — then walked toward a nearby bus stop. That’s where police stopped the driver, 50-year-old Clenney Banks of Palm Springs, who was later charged with a misdemeanor DUI and hit-and-run.
