Agencies pitch ideas for clean transportation funding
It’s all about making the air healthier to breathe in Southern California.
The Mobile Source Air Polution Reduction Review Committee held a workshop in Cathedral City on Tuesday.
Ideas were thrown around by representatives of Valley cities and public agencies, as well as the general public,on how a portion of $14 millionin clean transportation funding should be used.
The money is generated each year from motor vehicle registration fees. Cathedral City would like to see some of the money used to install electrical vehicle charging stations.
“We have auto dealers that sell electric vehicles, so if we can provide charging stations throughout the city, not only is that gonna be clean energy, it’s going to help us with an economic development opportunity.” said Greg Pettis, a Cathedral Citycouncilman and chair of the MSRC.
The $14 millionwill be split between Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
The review committee will begin accepting project applications early next year.
