Valley cities cleaning up in storm aftermath

Rain and flooding were some things cities across the Coachella Valley faced on Tuesday as heavy rains came pouring down on the desert.

In Coachella, Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City — water piled up quickly. The wet weather had many people pulling out whatever tricks they could to keep dry.

“This pancho, I got at Disneyland. I took my kids to Disneyland and got it there,” said a Cathedral City bicyclist.

Trenton Vasquez and his friends learned a Spider-Man umbrella couldn’t quite get the job done.

“We’re trying to avoid it, but I don’t think we’re doing a good job. My shoes are wet. We’re all soaked,” said Vasquez.

As drivers made a splash, some took extra precautions.

“I just drive a little bit slower. I watch out for crazy drivers andjust pay attention pretty much,” said Eric Raymon of Phoenix.

In Thousand Palms, roadways flooded and water rushed through neighborhoods. Some people called it a “river.”

The flood waters created quite the aftermath and left neighbors cleaning up the mess left behind.

Margarita Morales said the mess is what she and her family see every time heavy rains wash in.

“I’m used to it. My son and daughter are having fun just going in the water,” she said.

Many neighbors said they’re thankful the debris and mud from the storm didn’t flow into their homes.
