Deputies Identify Crane Accident Victim

A man who fell from a construction crane in La Quinta
and who remained in serious condition at a hospital was identified by sheriff’s
officials today.
Joseph Vaccaro, 51, fell about 50 feet from a crane at a construction site at Adams Street and Blackhawk Way shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies saw him climbing the crane after someone reported seeing a
“disoriented” man, and deputies and emergency workers tried talking to him,
but he fell off, sheriff’s officials said.
Vaccaro received “major” injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was in serious condition today and unable to speak with authorities, sheriff’s officials said.
Vaccaro was believed to be homeless, and deputies couldn’t find any family members, sheriff’s officials said.
“Records indicate Vaccaro may have frequented El Centro and portions of New Mexico, however, these records are several years old,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Anyone with information about the fall or how to contact Vaccaro’s family was asked to call the sheriff’s department at (760) 863-8990.
