Cathedral City business robbed
One man was arrested and authorities were searching for a second suspect suspected of involvement in a burglary at a car stereo installation company in Cathedral City, police said.
The burglary at Pacific Sound located at 32280 Date Palm Dr. was reported at 1:29 a.m., said Cathedral city police Sgt. Carl Wolford.
“Cathedral City police dispatch received a phone call from the alarm company that monitors the burglar alarm at Pacific Sound,” Wolford said.
When the officers arrived they spotted one man exiting the business and another man in a black Sports Utility Vehicle that was just pulling away from the location, Wolford said.
“The officers went in foot pursuit after (the suspect) who ran from from the business,” Wolford said. That suspect was taken into custody a short distance from the store. He was later identified as 19-year-old Sergio Velasquez of Rancho Mirage, according to Wolford.
The second suspect in the SUV managed to elude police and remains at large this morning, Wolford said. He was described as a Latino in his early 20s with a shaved head and a dark mustache.
Velasquez was booked into the Riverside County Jail on suspicion of commercial burglary, according to Wolford. The store’s loss was not reported by police.
Anyone with information on this burglary or the whereabouts of the second suspect was urged to call the Cathedral City police at (760) 770-0300 or (760) 770-0302.
