Two Indio Armed Robberies Linked
Descriptions of an armed man who held up two Indio fast food restaurants appear to be similar, according to police.
Late Friday afternoon, authorities released information about the two robberies, which both occurred within the last week. The first robbery happened at the Del Taco on the 82-700 block of Highway 111 on Nov. 2 at 2:53 a.m. The second happened at the Carl’s Jr. on the 81-700 block of Highway 111 Nov. 6 at 10:45 p.m. In both incidents the suspect wore the same clothing, was armed with a handgun, and had a similar physical description.
The man is described as white, between the age of 20 and 30, wearing a black and grey hooded sweater or sweatshirt, black jeans, and a red bandanna over his face.
In the Del Taco incident, the suspect pointed a silver or chrome semi-automatic handgun at a manager, and demanded money from the cash register and one of the safes. After getting money from the register, the gunman asked the manager if she had keys to the safe, and according to police, alluded he knew there was more than one safe on the premises. The robber told the three employees to lie on the floor while he ran out of the restaurant.
During the robbery at Carl’s Jr., the gunman apparently interrupted an employee making a money drop into a safe. He demanded that money, and also instructed the employee to give him money from all of the registers. His image was captured on surveillance video, which was distributed to media agencies on Friday.
