Sheriff’s Station Receives Grant
The Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station was
awarded a state grant of more than $100,000 to fund a year-long effort to crack down on drunken driving, the department announced today.
The award from the California Office of Traffic Safety will help cover
the costs of sobriety checkpoints starting in January, along with other anti-
DUI campaigns and efforts to enforce seat belt and child safety seat laws,
according sheriff’s Capt. Kevin Vest.
Vest urged residents to take precautions to prevent drunken driving-
related crashes.
“DUI drivers continue to cause needless injuries and deaths here in
Palm Desert and the entire Coachella Valley,” Vest said. “Simply avoid any
chance of killing or maiming someone else by using a designated driver.”
