Robbery suspect injured in Indio officer involved shooting

A robbery suspect was taken to the hospital after an officer involved shooting in Indio Thursday morning.

Shots were fired after an officer recognized the suspect near Madison Street and Highway 111 around 8 a.m.

According to Indio police public information officer Ben Guitron,the man opened fire on the officer when he was trying to make contact. He then shot at another officer arriving at the scene. The officers were not injured, but will be put on paid administrative leave until an investigation is completed.

The suspect has been released from the hospital according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Angel Ramos. He has been taken to a Sheriff’s Station for questioning. Criminal charges are pending.
