Indio offers shooting response training

The Indio Police Department will offer free training today city employees and residents on how to react to someone who starts firing a gun.

The department’s active shooter awareness training session is scheduled today from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the City Council chamber at 100 Civic Center Drive.

The training is open to all city employees and local residents, police spokesman Ben Guitron said. Topics will include how to respond, indicators of workplace violence, and a profile of an “active shooter.”
