Armed robbery outside La Quinta Walmart

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says two masked men armed with a knife and bat robbed a motorist as he sat inside his parked car outside the La Quinta Walmart Superstore.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. Friday to a parking lot at 79295 Highway 111, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Wedertz said.

The robbers had demanded an untold amount of cash from the victim, who was not hurt during the hold-up. The suspects fled in an unknown car and evaded capture, Wedertz said.

Witnesses told deputies that one suspect was 5 foot-4 inches tall while the second suspect was 5 feet-8 inches tall.

One suspect carried what looked like a kitchen knife and the second suspect stood at the rear of the victim’s car holding a bat or pipe-like object, Wedertz said.

Deputies urged anyone with information to call the sheriff’s Thermal station at (760) 863-8990 or (760) 341-7867.
