Coachella: Weekend two wraps up with arrests, but no major problems

The second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival continued under 90-degree skies Saturday at Indio’s Empire Polo Club, and police report they have already arrested 29 people.

Most of the arrests were for alcohol-related violations, but some were for drugs. There were no major traffic tie-ups to report and nothing out of the
ordinary occurred, police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

“Everything was smooth,” Guitron said. “We were OK.”

The festival, which is sold out, will continue through Sunday and features the same lineup as last weekend.

The forecast calls for sunny weather in the Coachella Valley with high
winds and highs in the mid-90s today and Sunday.

A medical team assigned to the festival have been put on alert for anyone who might fall ill because of the mid-day heat, Indio Community Services Manager Jim Curtis said.

People were urged to keep hydrated during the concert, Curtis said.

“We’re looking for a great ending for Coachella two,” Curtis said.
