Stagecoach roundup: Few arrests made and celebrity scuffle wiith security

The Stagecoach festival county music has come to a close, a success, by all appearances, marked by relatively few arrests.

Preliminary Indio police figures indicate that 121 people were arrested between Friday and Sunday, 50 Friday, 40, Saturday, and 31 Sunday.

Most of the arrests were for alcohol-related violations, including underage youths in possession of alcohol, minors trying to purchase alcohol with a fake ID, and public intoxication.

The festival at Indio’s Empire Polo Club drew thousands despite torrid temperatures 107 degrees on Sunday. Final attendance figures were expected today.

More than 55,000 people attended last year’s Stagecoach, which expanded from two to three days for the first time.

The festival brought in more than $13 million in gross sales in 2012, according to Billboard magazine.

Stagecoach’s sister festival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, was held at the polo grounds over the two weekends preceding this weekend’s event.

A Cinco de Mayo festival is scheduled next weekend.

On Saturday, Ashton Kutcher reportedly got into a violent melee with security at Stagecoach. Sources told the celebrity news website TMZ.com that it happened when some security personnel got between the actor and a woman as they were about to greet each other. An Indio police spokesman said he has no information on the reported scuffle.
