Protestors gather as close to Sunnylands as possible
Looking down Bob Hope Drive, protestors were hopeful for a sighting. They voiced their message to President Obama and President Jinping regardless.
“Right now we are under surveillance and control by China. They are applying a lot of pressure to the Vietnamese government and the Vietnamese sovereignty,” protestor Jason Doan said.
“Our message is for Obama to stand up for Tibet,” protestor Dekyi Yngcen said.
Hundreds of people protested south down Bob Hope, getting as close to Sunnylands as they could. They said China has illegally taken over the seas of South Vietnam and violated human rights.
“The Tibetan group, the Chinese democratic group against their own leader, are here because they’re so oppressed. All of them. Four or five groups here. Hundreds and hundreds of people here lined up since Thursday night,” Yngcen said.
Not even triple digit heat will quiet their chants on Bob Hope Drive and Gerald Ford and by the Hyatt in Indian Wells.
“We want our people and the U.S. to become a superpower again. We still believe we can achieve that status. No matter how difficult and challenging that will be, we will overcome and the U.S. will once again rise up above all these obstacles,” Doan said.
A strong hard chant, but a soft fist.
“Peaceful. We want peace, but the oppression hs to stop. The cultural genocide has to stop,” Yngcen said.
