1,500-acre fire near Banning only 15 percent contained
A fire in the San Gorgonio Wilderness east of Banninghas scorched up to 1,500 acres and was 15 percent contained today, according tothe U.S. Forest Service.
The blaze started shortly before noon Sunday in the northern part of theMorongo Indian Reservation and was burning today in “steep, rugged terrain”in a remote area, according to the Forest Service.
“There is continued potential for large fire growth into the SanGorgonio Wilderness,” according to a Forest Service statement.
No injuries, evacuations or structure threats were reported, and noroads were closed in the area.
Several helicopters and water tankers, and more than 30 crews fromfederal, state, county and Native American agencies were sent to fight thefire.
